1.  What is Owen's response to Fred?
Owen and his brothers just looked at Fred.  They were mad but they did not say anything.  They made Onion stay with Fred's body until they came back from fighting.

2.  Who does Onion travel with?
Onion is left to travel with Nigger Bob.  Eventually, they join Chase and Randy towards Lawrence, Missouri.

3.  Who owns Pikesville Hotel?
Miss Abby, a pro-slaver, owns the Pikesville Hotel.

4.  Who is Chase and Randy?
They are both are pro-slavers that are somewhere in their 20's.  They joined Onion and Nigger Bob and traveled with them.  Randy was wanted so he left quickly, but Chase stayed with them.  He wanted to give Onion to Miss Abby in exchange for Pie's services.

5.  Map out Pikesville Hotel in terms of rank and class.
I think this hotel is not as nice as Onion said it was.  He claims ""The Pikesville was a high-class hotel and saloon compared to the previous two shitholes that I aforementioned, but I ought to say here that looking back, it weren't much better. Only after I seen dwellings in the East did I learn that the finest hotel in Pikesville was ma pigsty compared to the lowliest flophouse in Boston" (McBride 131).  In other words, Onion thought it was an upper-class hotel at first, but then he compared it to other places he went to and realized it is only middle-class. Nicer than some, but not as nice as the others.

6.  Who is Sibonia?
Sibonia was a slave.  She was portrayed as crazy, only to later find out that she was faking it.  She most likely did this to lessen her work load and lower the chances of punishment.  She was faking to be someone she's not, just like Onion was.

7.  Who is Pie?
Pie is a beautiful, hotheaded, mulatto prostitute working for Miss Abby at Pikesville Hotel.  She is Miss Abby's "star" at the hotel.  Pie is the only person who knows Onions secret (that he is a boy).  She is Onion's mother figure, who he falls in love with.

8.  Who is Darg?
Darg is the overseer of everything that goes on in the yard.  He looks intimidating because "[h]e was nearly tall as Fredrick, but jut as wide. He had a thick chest, wide shoulders, and big, thick arms...But there was power in that man too, he was raw powerful, and looked big enough to pick up a house" (McBride 168-169).

3. Who is Nigger Bob?
He is owned by Marse Jack Settles.  He was driving the wagon for Kelly, holding Pardee imprisoned.  He refuses to take Pardee home afterwards, even though he will be going through his town.  He meets Onion and convinces Onion to go back to Brown's group instead of going to Dutch's.  After he convinces Onion, he asks if Brown would take him and free him.  Even though his family could not come, he decides to go anyways.

Is lying permissable?

Is lying permissible?

Personally, I believe that lying is acceptable under certain circumstances.  It is better to tell the truth, but sometimes you need to lie.  One situation is if there is a threat to your life, then it is okay to bend the truth.  For example, if someone knocks on your door pretending to sell something and they sound suspicious, you can tell them that you are the babysitter and the parents will be home soon and close the door, or if a strange man is hitting on you at a bar and asks for your number, you can give them a fake one.  Another situation is for avoidance of conversation.  For example, if someone continuously asks what is wrong but you do not want to talk about it, you say "Nothing, I am fine. I am just tired", or someone that you are not interested in talking to tries to talk to you and you say "Sorry, I have to go, I have class."  Last but not least, another situation is if you are hurting someone else's feelings.  For example, if your best friend asks you if you like her new shoes and you do not, you say yes to spare her feelings, or keeping the Easter bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus a secret from your kids.  In the end, if you are lying for the right reasons, it is okay.  No one likes to lie or be lied to, but sometimes, it is necessary to get out of some sticky situations.
